Tapas (asceticism)
Tapas means to do something that you are not inclined to do that will have a positive effect on your life. In the present day context, some of us are with our families round the clock and that is not necessarily going to be easy for some. Maintaining poise and cheer, no matter what will be an admirable form of self-discipline and strengthen your will and refresh the energy. As the pace of life has slowed down in general, it gives us the added opportunity to learn about ourselves, contemplate on our own life and its lessons. Constant observance of our own thoughts, internal chatter, and hidden aspirations 24*7 need courage and a deep desire for self-transformation. Secondly, to keep our mind at an elevated plane, the daily deep philosophical study is highly recommended. The contemplative study is a perfect antidote for the ceaseless information overload through various media platforms and it also acts as a guide to unravel our deepest core.
Ishvara Pranidhana (devotion)
It involves surrendering our idea of life and opening up to a cosmic tumult and trying to connect and merge with what is on offer. Secondly, no devotion is pure without active Karma Yoga or service to fellow brethren, to creatures, to nature, to the nation, and to entire cosmology. Let us focus on what we can, and let go of the elements that has gone way beyond the fulcrum of our control. Self-surrender is not for the weak-willed, letting go of selfish desire is an expression of giving ourselves up to a higher purpose.
Let us try and abide in cleanliness, contentment, discipline, introspection and devotion and we may very well unlock the mystical channels leading to our illumined core in a very short span of time that usually may not have been plausible over a lifetime.
