मैत्रीकरुणामुदितोपेक्षणां सुखदुःखपुण्यापुण्यविषयाणां भावनातश्चित्तप्रसादनम्॥१.३३॥

"Maitri karuna mudita upekshanam sukha duhkha punya apunya vishayanam bhavanatah chitta prasadanam"

The above sutra (1.33), describes four attitudes or virtues known as the Four Immeasurables, which are essential for developing a compassionate and mindful approach to life. These attitudes are maitri (friendliness), karuna (compassion), mudita (sympathetic joy), and upeksha (equanimity).

The course and evolution of the Mystic Yoga Animal Home is a captivating story that has touched and transformed lives along the way. Life began to change for us, the three Mystic Yoga founders - Chirashree, Sudhir, and Abhishek - when we accepted an abandoned kitten nine years ago. Little did we know that this small act of kindness would lead to the rescue of over 150 cats and kittens in a short time. In course of time, we welcomed a street dog in need of care and protection, and today, we have a large family of over 25 dogs. These animals found a place in our hearts, homes, Yoga Studios, and Yoga cafes, and have become the fulcrum around which our lives began to revolve, shaping the direction of our work and purpose.

In August 2024, we have been able to take the first step forward towards the establishment of a dedicated animal home on the outskirts of Kolkata. About 100 cats and 15 dogs have been shifted from our homes and Studios and 50 more cats and 10 dogs will be shifted in some time.

STRAY DOG/CAT FEEDING & STERLIZATION

Mystic Yoga goes beyond just housing animals. We actively engage in rescuing, caring for, protecting, rehabilitating, medicating, feeding, and sterilizing stray animals daily. At present, we care for over 250 stray dogs and 50 stray cats. Our goal is to sterilize at least 10 dogs and cats each month, and over the past few years, we have successfully sterilized more than 500 stray animals.

 A. Fixed MONTHLY expenses

  1. Food and medical care expenses for in-house animals

  2. Food and medical care expenses for stray animals in need

  3. Sterilization efforts

  4. Salaries for four dedicated full-time animal care staff

  5. Upkeep and maintenance of the animal home, a significant ongoing responsibility

For over eight years, the founders of Mystic Yoga have covered most of the expenses. Recently, other generous supporters have contributed as well. However, to ensure long-term sustainability, the Mystic Yoga Foundation needs continued, wholehearted community support.

B. ANIMAL HOME DEVELOPMENTAL EXPENSES

We need community contribution towards developmental expenses to help ensure long-term stability for the care and well-being of our animals. Developmental activities will be taken up in a phased manner. Our top priority which needs immediate focus are:

  1. Quarantine and Sterilization Facility: Separate spaces are required to care for sick animals in isolation and for in-house sterilization. [INR 3.5 Lacs approx.]
